For National Nurses Week, We Celebrate Our Nurses

Celebrating Nurses Appreciation Week

Mental Health Awareness Month would not be complete without a huge shoutout to our incredible nurses. This week, we proudly celebrate Nurses Appreciation Week and recognize the heart of Mount Rogers: our nursing team.

Every day, our nurses bring knowledge, compassion, and dedication to the people we serve. Their work makes a lasting difference in our community.

Dr. Bobby Miglani, Chief Medical Officer, describes our nursing team as “exceptional.”

More Than Medicine: A Commitment to Care

“Our nurses blend clinical skill with compassion in the communities we serve,” he said. “They go beyond traditional care. They meet patients where they are and never give up on them.”

Jason Hash, Director of Nursing, said nurses take on many roles.

“What might start as a routine check of vitals can turn into being a listening ear,” he said. “Helping patients through situations beyond typical nursing needs is something our staff are very passionate about.”

Jennifer Dean, RN, adds that one of the most meaningful moments is seeing nurses come together to support patients. She emphasizes that nurses at Mount Rogers remain committed to making sure no one feels alone.

The Backbone of Our Community Care

Nurses are often the first and most consistent point of contact for patients and families. They are present at the beginning of care. They continue walking alongside patients every step of the way.

“Their empathy, reliability, and respect build lasting trust. They represent who we are in every interaction,” Dr. Miglani said.

That level of trust goes beyond skill.

It reflects true compassion.

Rising to Meet Growing Needs

As our community grows, so do the needs of the people we serve. And our nurses continue to rise to the challenge.

“They’ve adapted quickly to rising needs. They’re expanding outreach and managing more complex cases with professionalism and resilience,” Dr. Miglani said.

Over the past year, nurses have helped expand access to care through programs like:

  • Assertive community treatment.
  • Crisis care.
  • Office-based addiction treatment.
  • Integrated services.

Their work helps keep patients stable in the community. It also reduces unnecessary hospital visits.

“Our nurses focus on each individual and provide high-quality care in the moment,” Hash said. “When we see unmet needs, we work with community partners to find solutions.”

A Culture of Support and Growth

At Mount Rogers, we are committed to supporting our nurses – both personally and professionally. We offer mentorship, leadership opportunities, and ongoing learning, while also recognizing the emotional demands of the job.

Dean said she genuinely loves the people she works with. “We really support each other, and that makes a big difference in community mental health,” she said.

We also invest in the future of our nurses. Through internship and clinical track programs, tuition partnerships, and flexible scheduling, we help nurses continue their education and grow in their careers.

With a wide range of services, nurses can find the path that fits their passion. They have the freedom to explore working with youth, older adults, substance use care, crisis services, or outpatient programs.

Making a Life-Saving Difference

Our nurses make an impact every single day. Sometimes, in life-saving ways. Hash gave a recent example.

“A nurse in our geriatric unit recognized signs of a medical emergency,” he said. “She acted quickly, guided staff, and kept the individual safe until EMS arrived. Her attention and care likely saved that person’s life.”

Moments like this show the skill, awareness, and dedication our nurses bring to their work.

Looking Ahead

The future of care is community based. Our nurses are leading the way.

“Their role will only continue to grow in shaping innovative, patient-centered care models,” said Dr. Miglani.

Thank you, Nurses!

Mount Rogers leadership have gratitude and admiration for all that nurses do in our communities.

“Thank you for the work you do every day,” Dr. Miglani said. “Often quietly, but always meaningfully. You make a real difference in people’s lives, and Mount Rogers is stronger because of you.”

Hash said our nurses are “making a difference, even on the difficult days. The impact you have can truly save a life.”

This week – and every week – we thank our nurses for their compassion, strength, and unwavering commitment to the people we serve.
